Explore the expressive beauty of the Canadian landscape through oil pastel in this hands-on workshop inspired by iconic Canadian artist Tom Thomson.
Guided by Art One instructor Lorna Fotiadou, you’ll explore how light, colour, bold linework, and texture can bring a landscape to life. Learn about Thomson’s artistic legacy and then create your own landscape, focusing on expression and interpretation rather than perfect technical drawing.
Did You Know?
Tom Thomson never actually worked with oil pastels. They weren’t invented until decades after his death. Thomson created many of his famous wilderness sketches using oil paint on small wood panels, often working directly in the Canadian landscape. In this workshop, we’ll use modern oil pastels to explore the rich colour, energetic marks, and expressive quality associated with his paintings, including works such as The Jack Pine.
Designed for both beginners and more experienced artists.
No previous art experience is required. All materials are provided. Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be served, so come ready to create, relax, and enjoy an inspiring afternoon at Art One Academy.
