Summer Camp Themes 2016

JUNIORS (Age: 4-7)

1ST WEEK
Fairy tales-visual stories of creatures and *magic*
Come and have fun with fairy tales theme. This week we will explore classic fairy tales, folk tales and legends from around the world. These stories will help children learn valuable life lessons. By telling fairy tales allow students to foster their imagination and creativity. Each teller makes personal changes to suit his personality. We will be looking into fairies, elves, trolls, dwarfs, giants, and other imaginary creatures.

2ND WEEK
Exploring Art Around the world
It is important to look at art from other cultures. The world is a colourful place of different languages, skin colours, and different cultures. To build an appreciation for other cultures around the world, we will look at the various artwork produced by the different areas of the world. Through looking into and exploring other cultures, this will allow students to see the way people live and gain appreciation of the many cultures we have.

3rd WEEK
Famous Artists and their subject
There have been famous artists throughout history who had created big changes in the world and changed the way we see art. This is an introduction to some famous works of art and artists. Students will explore some of the most popular artists throughout history. We will be looking into the different mediums, subject matter and style, famous artists have attempted to use and explore.

4th WEEK
Art and Children’s Literature 1
Picture books are a treasure to have when sharing with students a wealth of knowledge! This week, students will be reading a number of children’s literature which displays a set of well-produced works of art. The classes will combine the wealth of art available in picture books with references to both art masterpieces and the popular art of the world around them. By having students to relate to illustrations and artwork found in books will allow them to make deeper connections

5TH WEEK
Animals and their habitats
Animals live everywhere on earth, in every kind of terrain and every kind of climate. An animal’s living place is called its habitat. This week students will learn about the various animals around the world and their habitats. Each day, we will be exploring different animals, such as bears, birds, reptiles and tigers. This week will consist of fun projects where students will understand better on how animals live.

6TH WEEK
Art One Colour Lab
Step into the wonderful world of bright colours. Our Art Lab week will give you the opportunity to experiment with acrylics, watercolours, pastels, and printmaking, reveal mixed media secrets and much more.

7TH WEEK
Art and Children’s Literature 2

8TH WEEK
Art & Design: Make It, Wear It, Use It!
Art is all around us, in the clothes we wear and the objects we use. This is the kind of art we’ll be creating together, as we try our hand at tons of different projects! Explore a wealth of painting and design techniques. We’ll make journals, picture frames, puppets, belts, masks, treasure boxes, vases, wallets, children’s toys, fantasy costumes… the sky is the limit! We’ll construct gorgeous mosaics; experiment with fabric printing; paint on glass … anything is possible! Join us this session and learn all about art – not the type you hang on walls, but the kind you wear or use. Take your creations home with you at the end of the session, to give as gifts or to enjoy, long after camp is done.

9TH WEEK
Best of the best

Children will go back in time to re-create previous Summer Camp’s most loved projects! During this week, students will paint and draw using different media: acrylic, watercolour, oil and soft pastel and creating collages.

SENIORS (Age: 8-12)

Week 1 to 8
Art around the world
Get ready to discover art from around the world! Here you will find traditional folk art techniques from Africa, South America, North America, Australia (and more). Learn about famous artist of different cultures. Explore the flora and fauna of the 5 continents. Our students will make cool multicultural creations as they learn more about the world around them. Each week explores different subjects.

9TH WEEK
Best of the best

Children will go back in time to re-create previous Summer Camp’s most loved projects! During this week, students will paint and draw using different media: acrylic, watercolour, oil and soft pastel and creating collages.
